Phoenix Spanish Academy Mission

Phoenix Spanish Academy

The fifth largest city in the country and the capital of Arizona, Phoenix is the home to a wealth of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. When first arrived, the European explorers of the 18th century found a well-established Hispanic civilization and named it New Spain. Today, in the 21st century, Phoenix continues its Hispanic and Latino roots with its expanding population. In the 2000 Census, 1,429,637 residents were counted. 588,458 of those residents described themselves as being of Hispanic or Latino origin with 421,852 speaking Spanish at home as their primary language.

Phoenix recognizes its rich Hispanic heritage by celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 every year. Mexican Independence Day on September 16th is a highlight of the celebration with a day completely exploding with festivities and activities, trumping the establishment of freedom beyond the neighboring border. Later, Fiesta Glendale on October 11th includes entertainment by Ballet Folklorico and ethnic food while enjoying the atmosphere of Historic Downtown Glendale.

Phoenix’s always increasing diversity and rich Hispanic history and cultural roots are just a few of the reasons children in the Phoenix area will benefit from learning the Spanish language and the surrounding culture. Phoenix Spanish Academy has made it easy for children to learn Spanish.
